1966 NCAA Championship Texas Western vs. Kentucky

On March 19, 1966, Texas Western College, now known as theUniversity of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), put an all-black starting five onthe floor for the first time in an NCAA basketball championship. Thatnight the Texas Western Miners, led by coach Don Haskins with starplayers David Lattin and Bobby Joe Hill, defeated coach Adolph Rupp's#1 ranked all-white Kentucky Wildcats, 72-65.Lattin set the tone early with a thunderous dunk, highlighting thestrength of the Miners, while Hill's back to back steals showed theirquickness. Other key players for the miners included Harry Flourney,Willie Cager, Willie Worsley and Nevil Shed. The Kentucky Wildcatsfeatured Pat Riley, Louis Dampier and Larry Conley.
